Malawi Project '07

Liverpool to Malawi HIV community project 2007

A collaboration between Sahir House (Liverpool, UK) and NAPHAM (Lilongwe, Malawi)

Volunteers and paid workers from Sahir House have been raising funds to go to Malawi and work in collaboration with the National Association for People living with HIV/AIDS in Malawi (NAPHAM). All money raised went towards air fare, accommodation, training and medical resources. The volunteers were in Malawi for two weeks and delivered a high impact 'HIV in the community' project. Sahir House also aims to bring a team of people from NAPHAM to England to work with Sahir House in order to get a more international understanding of HIV/ AIDS.

The team offered support and training to NAPHAM staff, volunteers and the communities of Malawi in the following areas:

  • Community HIV training
  • Nursing support
  • Alternative therapies
  • Health and well being support and advice
  • HIV and bereavement counselling
  • Nutrition workshops using locally grown produce
  • Child and family support
  • HIV marketing, publicity and information delivery

A full report will be available in 2008 on request and also online.
